  1.      The enclosed scanned drawings were originally created as an
  2. aid to help young children learn to use a computer mouse. Since
  3. paper colouring books have been around for years, the concept of
  4. an Electronic Colouring Book (ECB) seems a natural in the 1990's.
  5. (The "crayons" don't melt in the sun, or get broken, or eaten;
  6. and the pictures can be reused many times - make a `working copy'
  7. of this ECB disk, and save each coloured picture under its own
  8. name.  The pictures can even be printed).  The Electronic
  9. Colouring Book also provides many exciting options not available
  10. on paper.  Although not as vibrant as colour, the use of various
  11. patterns and shading in monochrome is impressive.

  13.      In addition to the colouring pictures, which range from
  14. simple to advanced, I have also included two "Connect-the-dots"
  15. pictures for a different kind of mouse practice.

  17.      As an adult I enjoyed colouring some of this pictures, and
  18. trying different patterns and colour arrangements ranging from
  19. the conservative to the wildly ridiculous, blending, and even
  20. animation.  My mouse-ability increased considerably because
  21. sometimes a small error in pointing would lead to truly
  22. spectacular results!  Thank Heavens I have learned to SAVE every
  23. ten or fifteen minutes.

  25.      You are encouraged to use this disk, make copies for others,
  26. and/or to scan and make your own pictures.  But please respect
  27. the original artists' copyright!  Also be aware that there may be
  28. some expense involved in photo-reducing pictures, and that the
  29. "cleanest" scanned picture requires some touchup while "dirty"
  30. pictures or pictures with lots of zigzag lines can require a half
  31. hour or more to make presentable.  And make sure that all areas
  32. are truly enclosed with a solid line, even a single pixel "leak"
  33. will create a flood of colour.  Lastly, you may require a
  34. graphics conversion program to convert scanned (TIFF or .TIF)
  35. graphics to a format suitable to your paint program; such as PC
  36. Paintbrush, Paint-It, DR Halo, Paint Show Plus, EGA/VGA Paint,
  37. etc.

  39.      Most or all of the pictures can be loaded in as Black and
  40. White.  But because of the different sizes of the pictures - from
  41. 8200 to 27000+ bytes, only a few pictures can be loaded in as
  42. Colour.  Your graphics program and the amount of memory in RAM
  43. will determine which you can load directly as colour.  However,
  44. you should be able to take any B&W picture and scale it down
  45. (shrink it) small enough to allow it to be coloured.

  49.      Three other 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" Double density (XT) disks, with
  50. all pictures less than 13,000 bytes, are available for $10.00
  51. each (in Canadian or American funds).  Presently available disks
  52. are similar in content to this disk, but negotiations are
  53. underway for speciality disks (any suggestions?).
